Below is list of  a few palm trees, cycads, other exotic plants as well as other interesting items on special.  We apologize if we run out stock. We are always open Saturdays at the Nursery and typically also Monday-Friday, but please call first.  For mail orders, please contact us at 619 291 4605.  We do not ship internationally, but do ship to all states.  Thank you for your interest.

The following are "cutting edge" things that might interest you.

PALM SPECIALS

Actinokentia divarycata:  This is a very beautiful and rare palm from New Caledonia.  This palm is know as the mini flame thrower.  This palm has proven to be a slow but great grower for Southern California.  Available in seedlings, 2 gallons and 5 gallons.

Basselinia pancheri:  This is a stunning and very rare palm from New Caledonia.  This palm is difficult as a seedling, but many are growing them in Southern California.  Available in seedling size.

Burretiokentia khogiensis:  This is an unusual, rare and beautiful palm from New Caledonia.  This is a fast growing palm that is great for Southern California.  We have seedlings and 2 gallons.  We also have Burretiokenia hapala and vieillardii available in seedlings, 2 gallons and 5 gallons.

Butia X Queen:  Known as the "Mule Palm"; one gallon 3 year old old $45.  Also 2g and 5g sizes. 

Chamaedorea alternans: This a very nice Chamaedorea.  This is fast growing, solitary trunked palm with fat leaflets. It gets about 15 feet and requires shade.  It is a very tropical looking palm that is great for Southern California.  We have these available in 5 gallon and 15 gallon sizes.

Chambeyronia watermelon:  This refers to the green and yellow marbling on the crown shaft and trunk.  It is very aesthetic.  Some feel it is a hybridization between macrocarpa and hookeri.  Sometimes it's seen spontaneously.  We have 1g and large plants from a known excellent watermelon female.  This is a great palm for Southern California.  2g and 5g available Prices at price data base.

Cyphosperma balansae:  This is a rare and beautiful dwarf palm from New Caledonia.  It is slow a good palm for Southern California, though it requires shade.  Available in seedling and 2 gallon sizes.

Dypsis albofarinosa:  This is known by some as the "palm of the future".  This is a very attractive multi-caned palm from Madagascar.  It is also know as Dypsis sp. "white stem" and is a great grower for Southern California.  We have these available in seedling and 2 gallon sizes.

Dypsis cabadae:  This is a beautiful suckering palm from Madagascar.  It is a fast grower and has proven to be a great grower for many in Southern California.  Available in seedling, 2 & 5 gallon and a few 15 gallon sizes.

Dypsis hovomantsina:  This is one of the most beautiful and rare palms of Madagascar.  It is a slow grower, but has proven to be a good palm for Southern California.  Available in 1 and 2 gallon size. 

Dypsis onilahensis:  This is a very attractive suckering palm from Madagascar that has proven to be  a fast and hardy palm for Southern California.  Available in seedling, 2g and larger sizes.

Dysis pembana:  This is a stunning Madagascar palm.  It is fast growing, colorful palm which is either solitary or multiple trunked.  This is a fantastic palm for Southern California.  We have these available in seedlings, 1 gallons, 2 gallons, 5g and a few 15 & 20 gallon sizes.

Dypsis St. Lucei:  This is a very rare palm from St. Luce Island (Island close to Madagascar) with beautiful color and leaflets.  It is an easy grow for Southern California and can take full sun along the coast.  We have this palm in seedlings, 2g and 5g sizes.    

Jubaea X Butia:  A rare hybrid that gives a faster growing but big trunked palm!  Only a few 5g left, price is presently $125 (update April 09, essentially sold out).   

Kentiopsis magnifica:  This is a very rare and striking palm from New Caledonia.  It is slow to begin with though makes up for it in beauty and rarity.  This is a good palm for Southern California.  Available in seedling size.

Kentiopsis pyraformis:  This is a very rare and beautiful palm from New Caledonia.  It has a striking red emergent leaf and inflorescence.  It is a  good grower for Southern California.  We have these available in seedling size.
 Ravenea sp. "anjouan" nowhere else available; never offered before.  Beautiful!  Almost sold out!
 Ravenea sp. "pomuni" (both new species from the Comore Islands), (sold out)

Parajubaea torallyii:  Rare, fairly cold hardy and a must for the serious collector.  Right now we also have "microcarpa" and  "sunka" variety.  Sizes up to 15g 

Licuala mapu: (soon) exotic Licuala with black and green mottling in a geometric like pattern 10-06 sold out  

Licuala cordata:  extremely rare, beautiful and a real knockout.  One of the most difficult plants in the world to obtain.  sold out, sorry.

Jubaeopsis caffra seedlings are now available.  The "suckering coconut" from South Africa.  Available in 1g, 2g and a few 5g size.  Expensive but very slow to get to our sizes.

Satakentia liukiuensis:  This is a exotic palm is from Ryukyu Island off of Japan.  It is a fast and stunning palm that many have had success with in Southern California.  We have them available in seedlings, 2 gallons and 5 gallons.

Trithrinax campestris:  Cold hardy, suckering blue fan palm from South America, 1 gallon $35, 2g $45, a few 5g $65.

Vieillonia albla:  This is a very rare, beautiful and exotic palm from the island of New Caledonia.  It is being grown by some in Southern California (due to its rarity) with success.   Seedlings available.

 

OTHER PALM SPECIALS:  SAVE!

Jubaea chilensis seedlings, 3-4 leaf, $25.  Special: #10 for $200 plus s/h bareroot.  Also, a few larger specimen plants. 

LARGE Hyophorbe lagenecaulis (Bottle Palm) Huge, and I mean HUGE, 35 gallon plants.  Also, have smaller plants for sale.   Be aware: limited cold tolerance.  Consider the similar Hyophorbe verschafeltii, which is a bit more cold tolerant; and Hyophorbe indica, even better.

Cyrtostachys laaka (renda):  This species is near impossible to grow outdoors in Southern California.  From time to time we'll get a few in, but think about whether it's right for you.  Call regarding availability.   

 

Cold Hardy Sampler Pack Sale!    Do you live in a colder area?  Here's an opportunity to give some  cold-hardy palms a try.  We'll put together a package of # 4 "cold hardy" species (4 different palms) that may do well in your area.  This will include Trachycarpus and Sabal plus two others.  These plants should take down to about 18 to 20 degrees.  But, be sensible.  There are areas where palms just don't survive outdoors.   If you live in the far north of the U.S., accept the fact that you may be just too cold.  Price $99 plus s/h.  Mail order only.  Call us to place an order.  Sent bareroot out of the containers.

Palm trees seedlings specialsHuge Kentia Palms For Sale

 

Howea forsteriana

We are presently offering a great selection of mature or fruiting sized Howea forsteriana, the "Kentia" palm. These have been field grown for the last 15 years and are singles and multiples. Some have up to 18 feet of woody trunk with overall heights greater than 24 feet. They have been grown in full sun and are "instant landscape" for Kentia palm lovers.

Many of these specimens have been "pre-tenched" six months ago for easy and safe removal. All will need to be craned-moved to the job site.

Prices: $250 per trunk foot, measured from the ground to where the new spear is emerging. This price is very competitive and less than most sellers' price. Also, we are very fair with our trunk measurements.

Encephalartos ferox, flat leaf variety:  #4 nice, good sized 4 year old seedlings for $89 plus s/h.    

Encephalartos gratus, 4 year old seedlings, very nice, large for a band, #4 for $89 plus s/h.

Dioon edule, beatiful 4 y/o seedlings, getting good size, #4 for $89 plus s/h.

Zamia amblyphylidia, large 4 y/o bands #4 for $100 plus s/h.  These plants look very good.

Cycas tatungensus, 3-4 y/o seedlings, #4 for $89 plus s/h.  This is the old named Cycas taiwaniana and are much faster growing a prettier than it's cousin the C. revoluta. 

Encephalartos latifrons, just a few 10 year old plants.  Not cheap, but neither is good champagne!  04/09 sold out

Encephalartos laurentianus  New seedlings, biggest leafed cycad in the world (up to 20 foot leaves), juvenile plants starting at $400.  Extremely rare! 

Encephalartos pogeii.  First time ever!  Unbelievably rare central African species has just become available.  Get one while they last!

Good size blue Encephalartos horridus, E. trispinosus, and E. lehmanii.  All in full flush of leaves and well rooted for years.  Call for prices.  These are wonderful, beautiful plants.  They are perfect round caudexes.  Great plant for the collector.  These are not just a newly imported, barely rooted stumps.   We've imported most over 9 years ago.  They are fully established and leafed out beauties!  Recent offsets can be offered more cheaply, but these plants will be exploding in the ground while new suckers will just sit there for a year or two.

Landscape Ready Cycads

 

We presently have some very large, mature specimens of many rare cycad species.  This includes rare coning Encephalartos.  Presently we are offering for sale a few mature plants of Dioon edule, some of which are clustered.  Most are coning.  These are old plants in boxes and large containers! Great for full sun landscape.  Ready to go.  Priced at $750 -$1000 for a limited time. We also have mature, sun-ready Dioon spinulosum , rzedowski and mejiae at great prices.
